                  Hypocalcemia -

definition-

It is a condition in which level in blood is less than normal range.Normal calcium level is 9 to 10.5 mg/dl.


Causes-

* Vit.D deficiency

* Acute renal failure

* Poor intake of vit.D

* Excessive dietary magnesium

* Parathyroid hormone deficiency

* Osteoporosis treatment ( bisphosphonates )

* Prolonged use of medication ? laxative containing magnesium.


Sign and symptoms-


* Paresthesias

* Tetany

* Cardiac arrhythmias

* Laryngospasm

* Tingling or pins and needle sensation

* Purpura.


Management-


* I.V calcium gluconate 10%.

*  Calcium and vit.d supplements.
